June Scalia is a PhD student specializing in modern American and European sculpture. Prior to beginning her doctoral studies, June completed her MA in Art History at CUNY Hunter, where she was the recipient of the department’s Communication Studio Fellowship. Her MA thesis focused on Basque sculptor Eduardo Chillida and the significance of his work within the cultural context of Francoist Spain. In 2020, she researched and programmed an audio-video guide for the outdoor sculpture collection at the Hyde Museum in Glens Falls, NY.

June continues her studies of 20th-century sculpture with Dr. John Klein. In 2023, she received a departmental travel award which supported research at the Giovanni Carandente Archives in Spoleto, Italy. There she focused on the historic 1962 open-air exhibition Sculture nella città, investigating the integration of modern sculpture into the medieval cityscape.
