The Department of Art History and Archaeology is sad to announce the passing of their esteemed colleague, Mark S. Weil, The E. Desmond Lee Professor Emeritus for Collaboration in the Arts at Washington University in St. Louis. Prof. Weil died at his home in Jamestown, Rhode Island, on Thursday, Nov. 18, 2021. He was 82. We encourage everyone to read the obituaries in the Washington University Record and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, and learn more about Prof. Weil and his long-reaching impact on the Department and the Humanities at Washington University, and more broadly, on the larger arts communities of St Louis and beyond.
In addition to his wife, Joan Hall-Weil and his brothers Richard and John, Weil is survived by his sons Daniel and Alexander, and a grandson, Nathan. A memorial service that was scheduled for January 8 has been postponed due to Covid-19. A new date in 2022 will be announced at a later time.
